Decide on AWD before falling for the black R32
The right reason to buy this Skyline is that you can actually use it. A finished black R32 sitting beside its transmitter is appealing, but the stronger ownership argument is a clear section of indoor floor that becomes a course in minutes. At 160mm long, the 32652ID fits a different daily routine from a 1/10 drift car. The body brings the Initial D connection; the small working footprint gives that connection somewhere practical to live.
The crucial qualifier is AWD. All four wheels are driven, with drift tires supplied to reduce grip on a suitable surface. That creates a different relationship between throttle, steering and vehicle angle from a dedicated rear-wheel-drive drift platform. If the goal is eventually joining a particular RWD club or reproducing that category's technique, ask the club about its cars and rules first. A smaller purchase does not automatically become the cheapest route to a different discipline after a string of conversions.
This is the complete 32652ID Readyset, based on Kyosho's MA-020 family and identified as MA-020-N in the exact product's technical table. It is the R32 V-SPEC II from Initial D: The New Movie, rather than an R34, an Auto Scale display body or a First MINI-Z toy. Those distinctions matter because search results mix bodies, chassis generations and complete cars. The factory product page and its linked manual are the basis here; our assessment does not claim physical testing.

Eight cells finish the basic shopping list
Kyosho supplies the assembled chassis with installed control equipment, painted and decorated R32 body, Syncro KT-531P transmitter and drift tires. The listed contents also include a mini pylon, wheel tool, pinion-removal tool, spare nut and alternative gears. That is a complete model package rather than a shell that needs an entire car underneath it. You should not have to source a separate receiver, steering assembly or motor to make the standard Readyset function.
Operation needs four AAA cells in the chassis and four AAA alkaline cells in the transmitter. The exact manufacturer product page permits alkaline or NiMH cells for the chassis; it specifies alkaline cells for the radio. Follow that distinction rather than treating every compartment as interchangeable. A simple first-use basket can therefore use eight appropriate alkaline cells without buying a hobby LiPo charger. Choosing supported rechargeable chassis cells creates a separate requirement for a charger designed for those cells.
The gyro and lighting are not part of the included equipment. A gyro mounting location and an adjustment control are provisions for an accessory, not evidence that stabilization is already operating. Likewise, molded headlamp detail is not an installed LED system. Check the actual 32652ID contents before adding accessories, and leave time to learn the factory vehicle. It is easier to identify a setup problem when the car still matches the manual than after several unrecorded electrical and mechanical changes.

Keep the stock motor; understand what the tires are doing
The stock electric motor is brushed, with shaft drive carrying power through the AWD transmission. There is no brushless system or configurable racing controller promised in this Readyset. A modest indoor course does not automatically benefit from a faster replacement motor: increasing wheel speed can reduce the useful portion of the trigger travel and make a small course harder to judge. My first performance purchase would be time spent understanding the original car and its surface, not a motor chosen from a different MINI-Z family.
The hard drift tires are central to the intended behavior. They allow the powered wheels to slide on an appropriate smooth surface, which makes AWD useful for an accessible compact sliding course. They are not the same equipment as soft grip tires selected for lap-time racing. A low-grip tire also means that debris or a surface transition can change the available traction abruptly. Keep the course surface consistent before deciding that a control setting or differential modification is the missing ingredient.
Kyosho lists 14 ball bearings, which is a useful supplied specification rather than an invitation to buy an immediate bearing conversion. The included pinion and spur options do not mean that every possible combination is correct for this body and wheelbase. Use the manual's motor-position and gearing instructions before changing anything, and retain the factory combination as a reference. We have not measured top speed, motor temperature or runtime, so none of those is used to justify a claimed performance advantage.

The included KT-531P has useful limits and definite boundaries
The KT-531P is a matched 2.4GHz radio, so this Readyset does not ask a beginner to choose a transmitter protocol and separate receiver. Kyosho documents steering and throttle trim, steering dual rate and a training mode. The exact product page says training mode is the shipment default. Verify the setting on the car you receive instead of assuming it has never been changed. Begin with predictable low-speed starts and stops before drawing an elaborate course around furniture legs.
Set steering trim on a clean level strip and distinguish it from steering dual rate. Trim corrects the neutral direction; dual rate changes available steering travel. Turning down steering travel cannot repair a bent linkage or compensate for an incorrectly seated body. If the car will not track consistently, inspect the wheels and suspension for contamination or interference before chasing the radio settings. Record a known baseline so a later adjustment can be assessed against something more reliable than memory.
Compatibility is a buying constraint. Kyosho explicitly excludes several older or different radios, including KT-18, KT-19 and the listed ASF-series transmitters, and says optional ICS cannot be used on this model. The current exact product page specifies the separately sold MZW711 gyro. Older MINI-Z articles and some retailer descriptions name other gyro generations. Confirm the board and exact accessory with Kyosho before ordering; a shared MINI-Z badge is not a universal connector or protocol guarantee. We do not recommend buying an older gyro from a generic compatibility assumption.

Small adjustments need a clean mechanical starting point
The front VCS arrangement changes camber as the suspension moves, while the rear uses strut-type suspension. That describes the mechanism; it does not establish a measured cornering advantage on your floor. With a small car, a little hair wrapped around an axle or a tire not seated consistently can obscure the effect of a spring change. Check free wheel rotation, steering movement and body clearance before adding tuning parts. Those checks are inexpensive and make later experiments easier to interpret.
The factory technical table gives a 94mm L wheelbase and narrow wheels with +1.5mm offsets at both ends. These are useful fitment details when interpreting the chassis, even if you never change the body. A replacement shell has to agree with wheelbase, width, offset and mounting requirements; visual resemblance alone is not enough. The promise of a broad body ecosystem does not mean every Auto Scale body drops straight onto this exact configuration without additional work.
Start course practice with broad curves, then make one controlled adjustment at a time. If you choose to investigate different front springs later, retain the original pair and note the result on the same section of floor. Avoid treating oil or lubricant as a universal cure for stickiness around small plastic parts. Use the model's documented maintenance guidance and compatible products. The object is to preserve predictable movement, not to build a specification sheet containing the largest possible number of aftermarket components.

The surface is effectively part of the setup
This is an indoor car, and the manual describes indoor use. A clean, smooth, level area is the sensible starting point. Ordinary outdoor asphalt brings abrasive texture, grit and irregularities that are disproportionately large beside these wheels. Grass and gravel are not plausible substitutions for a miniature drift course. A room's available area matters, but so do floor transitions, chair feet and places where the car can disappear under something difficult to move.
Use free-standing lightweight markers rather than fastening unfamiliar tape directly to a finished floor. Confirm that the surface owner is comfortable with the activity, and keep the course clear of foot traffic and pets. The first useful exercise is a repeatable turn followed by a controlled stop, not an aggressive slide into a fixed object. A 160mm car is small enough to be easily overlooked, while its detailed body remains something you may want to preserve.
Grip can vary between visually similar floors, and household cleaning residue can complicate a comparison. I would clean the course and inspect tire surfaces before drawing conclusions about settings. Community discussions of AWD MINI-Z ownership include drivers who later wanted the different experience of RWD drifting. Those are individual category-level preferences, not tests of the 2025 32652ID or proof that one layout is objectively superior. Their useful lesson is to choose the driving format deliberately before investing in changes intended to turn it into something else.

Treat the Skyline as a model that also needs servicing
The factory-finished R32 body is a substantial part of the appeal. It represents Takashi Nakazato's car from Initial D: The New Movie, and Kyosho gives this version its own exact product identity. That makes it attractive to someone who wants the model itself as well as indoor driving. It also makes casual body impacts a different ownership concern from scuffing a plain practice shell. I would design the first course around open space rather than use the detailed bumpers to discover the room's boundaries.
Learn the body release and attachment points from the manual. Remove the shell carefully for cell changes and check that it is fully seated afterward. Do not force it down over a displaced wire or assume a body rub can be corrected by tightening unrelated screws. The separately available MZW429R LED set is an option named on the current product page; installing lights adds another set of wires to route and inspect. It is a later cosmetic decision, not a requirement for learning the car.
After use, remove contamination around axles and suspension, inspect wheel security and store the cells according to the model and battery instructions. Tiny screws are easy to overtighten in plastic, so correct tools and patient access matter. Keep a tray for small fasteners when servicing the car. We have no ownership fleet, repeated-impact series or component-life measurements for this Readyset. Its service case rests on identified parts and manufacturer documentation, while the care required by a small detailed model remains part of the purchase.

A simple initial basket, with optional expenses kept visible
The dated US price reference is Dollar Hobbyz's $229.99 listing for 32652ID, checked on 15 October 2026. It is a retailer reference, not a manufacturer MSRP, guaranteed stock statement or Amazon price. The manufacturer's Japanese product page lists a different market and currency, so converting that figure would not create a verified US checkout price. We use the exact US seller reference while keeping the source and date visible and the live Amazon display separate.
For a first alkaline-cell setup, the additional operating purchase is eight specified AAA cells. The chassis, body, radio, motor, control electronics and drift tires are included. We have not attached an invented battery-pack price to that list: choose fresh suitable cells locally and add their actual cost, delivery and tax. If you choose supported NiMH chassis cells, include their compatible charger in the budget rather than presenting rechargeable operation as free. The radio still follows its own specified cell requirement.
The optional gyro, LED set, extra bodies and tuning hardware should sit outside the mandatory starting total. That distinction protects the Readyset's strongest value argument: it can be used in the supplied configuration. Before buying a second body or upgrading electronics, compare that spending with the complete RWD vehicle you may ultimately want. Saving a little at purchase is not useful if the entire ownership plan is a sequence of attempts to reproduce a different platform. Decide whether this is your preferred format, a companion model or a stepping stone with a clear spending limit.

A larger RWD car is a different route, not an automatic upgrade
The Traxxas 4-Tec Drift Nissan 240SX is the obvious archive comparison for a buyer whose actual aim is a larger RWD drift car with a Nissan identity. It needs a substantially different course footprint and brings its own power and control package, covered in our separate review. Compare the whole starting basket and venue requirement rather than the body names alone. This MINI-Z is easier to store; that does not establish equivalent behavior, club eligibility or a shared learning progression.
Kyosho's Fazer D2 Toyota 86 is another complete larger drift-car alternative worth reading about before spending heavily on MA-020 modifications. If you have access to a suitable 1/10 venue, its layout may be closer to your intended activity. If the only dependable driving space is indoors at home, the smaller R32 can be a better practical purchase despite the different dynamics. A car that can be used regularly has a different kind of value from one that waits for a distant track visit.
Within MINI-Z, choose between a complete AWD Readyset and a grip-oriented RWD package according to surface and activity, not merely the shell you like. Do not confuse a display body, chassis-only listing or First MINI-Z with this package. The current review scope is complete cars, so those separate pieces are not alternative purchases here. We have not driven these vehicles back to back. The comparison is about drivetrain, scale, supplied equipment and the ownership task each purchase creates, with the R32 strongest when compact indoor AWD sliding is already the desired task.

A small Skyline with a clear, enjoyable job description
The 32652ID makes a convincing case when three things line up: you like the black Initial D R32, you have a suitable indoor surface, and you want the AWD format. The finished body, installed drift tires, supplied radio and bearings make a coherent first package. There is no mandatory painting session or LiPo charging system to assemble for an alkaline-cell start. That is useful simplicity, provided the eight missing cells are part of the order rather than an opening-night surprise.
My reservations concern expectations and compatibility more than a missing headline feature. A gyro is optional, the radio has defined compatibility limits and the current product page's accessory guidance takes priority over older generic recommendations. The physical dimensions also matter more than retail scale-label variations. Kyosho's exact technical table gives 160 × 72 × 51mm, while some sellers carry different dimensions. We retain the manufacturer's exact-model measurements instead of combining them into an invented average.
Buy this as an indoor model you intend to use in its own right. Skip it if your target is outdoor running, a specific RWD drift class or a platform you plan to rebuild immediately. The editorial score above evaluates that buying proposition through five equally weighted categories, not measured drift angle, lap pace or customer stars. Confirm 32652ID, read the cell and radio instructions, clear a sensible course and learn the original setup before expanding the shopping list.

The questions worth asking.
Is 32652ID a full RC car or a display body?
It is the complete AWD Readyset with installed electronics, finished R32 body and KT-531P radio. Separate Auto Scale bodies and First MINI-Z products are different listings.
Does it include a gyro?
No. The current 32652ID manufacturer page specifies the optional MZW711. Confirm exact board compatibility rather than transferring an older gyro recommendation from another MINI-Z generation.
How many batteries does it need?
Four AAA alkaline or NiMH cells for the chassis and four AAA alkaline cells for the transmitter, according to the exact product page. None is included.
Can it run outdoors?
The manual specifies indoor use. Clean smooth indoor floors are the intended setting; rough asphalt, grit, grass and moisture are poor matches for this miniature drift car.
Is it RWD like a larger drift car?
No. It is shaft-driven AWD with factory drift tires. Choose a dedicated RWD package if that drivetrain and its driving technique are your goal.
Why do some listings show different dimensions?
Retail listings vary. We use the exact Kyosho 32652ID technical table: 160mm long, 72mm wide, 51mm high and a 94mm wheelbase. Retail scale labels and dimensions are not averaged together.
