Scope and equipment
This shortlist serves a buyer with limited driving and storage space, choosing among complete vehicles and one body-inclusive assembly kit. It compares documented stock packages, not spare parts, bare chassis or conversions. Surface fit and buyer guidance are editorial judgments informed by manufacturer documents and attributed outside coverage; no physical five-car comparison, measured minimum room size or reliability study was performed.
- Identify the exact surface and whether you want racing, sliding, crawling or building.
- Leave room to stop and recover the car without people, pets, traffic or exposed drops.
- Compare exact SKU, color and included equipment before comparing prices.
- Check the actual battery and charger instructions; USB requirements differ by model.
Choose the place before the car
A small car does not automatically suit a small room. A crawler can make a short obstacle route interesting at walking pace, while a tiny buggy still needs space to accelerate, turn and stop. A drift tire also asks a different question of the floor than a grippy racing tire. The useful first question is which repeatable driving area you can actually use each week. Storage dimensions come after that decision.
This list deliberately includes different activities rather than five near-identical vehicles competing for an invented overall crown. The Micro-B is the race-loop option, the AE86 is the smooth-floor slide option, and the two crawlers divide a low indoor course from a more substantial miniature outdoor route. The Mojave is for the person who has prepared dirt and wants assembly as part of the hobby. No pick turns ordinary thick lawn into a suitable micro course.
The table gives the quick route through those choices. A manufacturer scale label is a useful description, not a common physical size standard across different real-world body styles. Check actual dimensions and the full review if a shelf or transport box is close. The numbered sections follow venue type and do not claim a performance ranking.

1. Losi Micro-B: for a clear indoor race loop
EXACT COMPLETE VEHICLE / LOS00007T1
Losi Micro-B
- Driving fit
- A clear low-pile carpet or similarly suitable indoor loop, with soft markers and room to stop.
- Why it belongs
- Tiny assembled 2WD race-buggy layout; radio, drive battery, charger and radio cells supplied.
- Main reservation
- Small wheels dislike debris and floor transitions; it is not a micro crawler or a lawn car.
- Included
- White LOS00007T1 buggy, 65T brushed system, SLT2 radio, 350mAh 2S LiPo, USB-C charger and four AA cells.
- Still needed
- Use a suitable input source under the supplied charger instructions. The manufacturer lists no extra completion item and calls its 65W supply optional.
$89.99 USD reference · Horizon/Losi exact white RTR listed reference · checked 20 Oct 2026. Price reference ↗
$89.99 is the dated vehicle-package reference before tax and shipping. Add an appropriate charging input source only if needed; no independent accessory quote or complete checkout total is claimed.
White · complete brushed buggy · listing identity recorded 12 Oct 2026; current seller, price and availability can change. The Micro-B is the choice here when the enjoyable part is repeating a lap and improving the line. At 173mm long, the white LOS00007T1 is easy to store and does not demand a large model-making workspace before its first session. It is an assembled brushed two-wheel-drive buggy, with aluminum chassis and oil-filled shocks documented by Losi. Those features describe the package; they are not evidence of a lap-time advantage over the other vehicles in this list.
I would start with a simple flat layout and soft markers on a clean, low-pile surface appropriate to the tires. Keep the first loop broad enough to stop comfortably. Deep carpet, hair, door thresholds and crumbs can be significant obstacles for a car this small. If your available space is a narrow aisle between hard furniture, the presence of a miniature racing body does not solve the stopping problem. A low obstacle course and a crawler may be a better use of that room.
Its strongest buying argument is the supplied power and radio equipment. The exact manufacturer package includes the 350mAh 2S battery, USB-C charger and four AA transmitter cells. Losi lists no further completion equipment and calls its recommended USB supply optional; that is different from the mandatory input-supply wording on the Mojave kit. Check the supplied charger's requirements and what you already own. Skip this pick if the main ambition is climbing over household objects rather than driving around a repeatable loop.

2. Kyosho Initial D AE86: for smooth-floor sliding
EXACT COMPLETE VEHICLE / 32651ID
Kyosho MINI-Z AWD Initial D Toyota AE86

- Driving fit
- Clean, smooth, dry indoor hard flooring; AWD sliding rather than a carpet grip-racing target.
- Why it belongs
- Finished Initial D panda body, stock drift tires and a supplied KT-531P transmitter.
- Main reservation
- The RC chassis is AWD, not the full-size AE86’s RWD layout; gyro and working LEDs are optional.
- Included
- Exact 32651ID MA-020-N complete Readyset, factory-finished body, drift tires, transmitter and small tools.
- Still needed
- Four AAA alkaline or NiMH chassis cells, plus four AAA alkaline transmitter cells. Add a suitable charger if choosing rechargeable chassis cells.
$239.99 USD reference · Indexed Kyosho America exact-model list reference; direct US page unavailable · checked 20 Oct 2026. Price reference ↗
Start from the indexed $239.99 USD vehicle reference, then price the eight required cells and any NiMH charging equipment. It is not a live checkout quote or an all-in total.
32651ID complete MINI-Z AWD Initial D Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 Readyset · listing identity recorded 15 Oct 2026; current seller, price and availability can change.Choose the 32651ID when the room has a clean, smooth, dry hard surface and the desired activity is linking gentle slides. The finished panda Trueno body is a legitimate reason to prefer this particular Readyset. The MA-020-N chassis, stock drift tires and supplied KT-531P transmitter define the actual package underneath that appearance. It is a complete vehicle, not an Auto Scale display shell with a similar Initial D name.
The drivetrain deserves a direct explanation: this RC AE86 is AWD. The full-size car's rear-wheel-drive identity does not turn the miniature into a dedicated RWD drift platform. That distinction matters if the goal is specifically rear-drive tandem drifting. Begin with the stock car and factory training mode instead of placing conversion parts in the first-order basket. Neither a film reference nor an optional gyro supplies the practice space and gradual inputs that a beginner still needs.
Budget for the batteries before comparing the price with the Micro-B. Four AAA chassis cells and four AAA alkaline transmitter cells are required. NiMH is an allowed chassis option, with appropriate charging equipment if needed. The optional gyro also has a regional documentation conflict: the current global page and exact compatibility chart identify MZW711, while indexed US copy names MZW446. Confirm the actual version before a later gyro purchase. It is not part of the stock Readyset, so the conflict does not justify an automatic accessory order.

3. Axial SCX24 Power Wagon: for low indoor obstacles
EXACT COMPLETE VEHICLE / AXI00007T2
Axial SCX24 1940s Dodge Power Wagon

- Driving fit
- Low, stable obstacle courses on the floor, with clear recovery access and no exposed tabletop edges.
- Why it belongs
- A detailed green hard body, oil-filled shocks and a matched radio/battery/charger basket for slow line choice.
- Main reservation
- The long scale body and small tires limit obstacle choice; the supplied USB charger still needs suitable input power.
- Included
- AXI00007T2 original complete Power Wagon RTR, 88T brushed motor, SLT2 radio, 350mAh 2S LiPo, USB charger and four AA cells.
- Still needed
- A suitable 5V USB source rated at least 1A under the exact model manual; safe, stable course materials.
$159.99 USD reference · Horizon/Axial exact green original RTR listed reference · checked 20 Oct 2026. Price reference ↗
$159.99 USD covers the documented vehicle package before tax and delivery. Add a suitable USB source if none is owned; course materials and charging provisions depend on the actual setup.
Green · original AXI00007T2 complete RTR · listing identity recorded 14 Oct 2026; current seller, price and availability can change. The green original AXI00007T2 makes sense when you want to choose a line slowly rather than maintain a lap. Its four-wheel-drive crawler layout, 88-turn brushed motor and oil-filled shocks are documented equipment for that activity. The licensed four-door hard body gives it scale character, but the long body and small wheels also make obstacle choice important. A pile of household objects is not automatically a well-matched course simply because the car can approach it slowly.
Keep a first route low and stable on the floor. Use obstacles that cannot tip onto the vehicle and leave an easy recovery path. A raised coffee table or desk needs effective edge containment; a modest crawler still falls when it reaches an exposed edge. A changing line through a few safe obstacles can provide more useful practice than making every obstacle taller. We do not publish a tested maximum climb angle or a minimum tabletop size for this model.
The radio, 350mAh 2S LiPo, charger and four AA cells are included. The original model manual still specifies a suitable five-volt USB source with at least one amp of output. The product page's claim of a complete package should be read together with that input requirement. Choose this pick for deliberate indoor line choice and the green Power Wagon appearance. Skip it when the desired session is fast racing, sustained grass running or a miniature replacement for a full-size trail truck.

4. Traxxas TRX-4M Bronco: for a small dry trail
EXACT COMPLETE VEHICLE / 97074-1
Traxxas TRX-4M Ford Bronco

- Driving fit
- A compact dry garden rock route or small trail; deliberately chosen obstacles rather than long grass.
- Why it belongs
- A larger 1/18 body and tires than the smallest indoor picks, with a finished Bronco body and supplied drive power.
- Main reservation
- Four transmitter cells and USB input power remain extra; the integrated controller couples future electronics changes.
- Included
- Blue 97074-1 Bronco complete RTR, Titan 180 brushed motor, TQ radio, 750mAh 2S LiPo and 2A USB charger.
- Still needed
- Four AA alkaline transmitter cells and suitable 5V USB-A input power; Traxxas recommends at least 2A output.

Blue · complete car · listing identity recorded 12 Oct 2026; current seller, price and availability can change. The blue Bronco is the next direction when the venue is a small outdoor rock route or a carefully chosen garden trail. The 262mm-long 1/18 TRX-4M is physically larger than the smallest indoor cars here. It remains a compact crawler, with a single-speed drivetrain, locked spools and straight axles. Do not transfer the remotely selectable differentials, two-speed transmission or portal axles of the full-size TRX-4 Pathfinder into this package.
That simpler layout is part of the attraction for a small route. The finished ABS body and supplied 750mAh 2S drive battery remove assembly and power-selection jobs, while the TQ radio is already matched to the vehicle. Four AA alkaline transmitter cells and suitable USB-A input power are still your responsibility. Traxxas recommends at least two amps at five volts for the supplied charging route. Use the actual model instructions instead of borrowing the SCX24's input requirement because both chargers connect to USB.
Michael Febbo's 2024 The Drive review provides attributable outside context for using the Bronco indoors and on a miniature outdoor course. His observations are his test record; we do not adopt its runtime, condition reports or historical price as our own current results. I would choose the Bronco for the larger small-trail format and body preference, while allowing for the integrated controller's ownership implications. Skip it for a garden consisting mainly of thick lawn or a buyer expecting a small high-speed basher.

5. ARRMA Mojave GROM RTA: for prepared dirt and a first build
EXACT COMPLETE VEHICLE / ARA2104KT1
ARRMA Mojave GROM RTA

- Driving fit
- A small prepared dry dirt or fine-gravel course with open run-off room; not a long-grass garden.
- Why it belongs
- A body-inclusive build project with matched brushed 2S electronics, radio, battery and charger already chosen.
- Main reservation
- Assembly and painting are real work, and a compatible USB supply remains a separate purchase.
- Included
- Clear/black ARA2104KT1 4WD RTA kit, MEGA 380 28T brushed motor, radio, 1400mAh 2S LiPo, USB charger and four AA cells.
- Still needed
- Polycarbonate paint, preparation supplies and compatible QC 2.0/3.0 18W+ USB input power. Read the assembly addendum before starting.

The $169.99 USD kit reference excludes paint, preparation materials and the required USB input supply. Budget those and your build time separately; no universal complete-start total is claimed.
ARA2104KT1 clear/black complete body-inclusive RTA kit; battery and charger included · listing identity recorded 15 Oct 2026; current seller, price and availability can change. The Mojave is the largest vehicle here, and it needs the most preparation before driving. The ARA2104KT1 is a complete body-inclusive ready-to-assemble kit with brushed 2S electronics, not the assembled brushless Mojave GROM 223S. It belongs because someone with a modest dry dirt or fine-gravel course may want both the construction project and the finished truck. Its 338mm length is still compact to transport, but it is not an indoor substitute for the tiny buggy.
The kit supplies the motor, radio, battery and charger, so the first builder is not selecting a separate electronics system. Paint, preparation supplies and compatible USB input power remain extra. The current manufacturer illustration specifies QC 2.0/3.0 compatibility and at least 18W output. Read the current assembly addendum before opening the bags, and use the separate paint guide. The clear/black body photographed in this shortlist is shown assembled; a finished custom color does not arrive as a painted RTR gift.
Greg Vogel's June 2026 RC Driver coverage follows this exact kit through assembly and painting, which is useful evidence that the project is a substantial part of its identity. It is not our build-time measurement or durability test. I would choose it only when the workshop stages sound enjoyable and suitable ground is available. If the venue is long grass or the first run must happen immediately after opening the box, a different complete vehicle is a better match.

Price the first run, not just the vehicle
Every figure in the table is a USD vehicle-package reference checked on 20 October 2026. The Kyosho figure is explicitly an indexed manufacturer reference because the direct US page was unavailable. Manufacturer figures are not live Amazon offers, discounts or evidence that the same seller can deliver every model today. Some legacy brand pages also display unavailable banners that conflict with Horizon's current catalog. Check the actual selected listing before relying on a delivery date.
The most complete included-equipment list is not always the lowest-cost first run for a particular owner. Someone who owns suitable charging input supplies may need less additional equipment than a completely new household. Someone choosing rechargeable AAA chassis cells for the AE86 must account for the charger as well as the cells. Paint and preparation belong in the Mojave basket. Taxes, delivery and the battery-handling provisions specified by the supplied equipment instructions also remain part of the actual purchase.
We have not priced all those additions independently, so the table does not pretend to be five precise all-in totals. Use each card's required-equipment note to assemble a real checkout basket. Keep optional tuning, lighting and cosmetic purchases separate until the stock car has a defined job. An inexpensive extra that does not help the first run still consumes the budget that could have covered the correct power equipment.

Choose the session you will repeat
If you can picture a small race loop you will clear regularly, start with the Micro-B. If the picture is a smooth-floor slide course and a favorite Japanese body, the AE86 is the closer fit. For slow obstacle choices, decide whether the low indoor format of the Power Wagon or the larger miniature-trail format of the Bronco better matches your available ground. The Mojave asks a separate question: will you enjoy building and painting before driving on prepared dirt?
None of these choices needs an invented speed chart to become useful. Check the exact package, confirm a suitable surface and leave room to stop and recover the vehicle. Then read the linked full review for the detailed controls, source conflicts and ownership questions. Buying the car whose weekly session already makes sense is more useful than buying the largest specification number and searching for somewhere to use it afterward.
Before choosing your small-space car
- Name the actual venue and activity; do not treat all indoor floors alike.
- Check exact SKU, color and complete-vehicle package against the linked review.
- Confirm required cells, charging input source, paint and any other missing essentials.
- Leave stopping and recovery space; keep low obstacle courses away from exposed drops.
- Compare the complete checkout basket using dated references, without assuming live stock or discounts.
- Start with the documented stock setup before optional changes.
Frequently asked questions
Which pick needs the least additional equipment?
The Micro-B and Power Wagon include the car, radio, drive battery, charger and transmitter cells. You still need a suitable charging input source under the exact supplied instructions. Compare that with what you already own rather than assuming an identical all-in total.
Can any of these drive on ordinary lawn?
This shortlist does not recommend sustained thick-grass use. Small wheels can encounter heavy resistance. The Mojave recommendation is prepared dirt or fine gravel; the small crawlers need appropriately scaled obstacles and routes.
Is the MINI-Z AE86 a rear-wheel-drive drift car?
No. Exact Readyset 32651ID uses the MA-020-N AWD chassis. Its full-size inspiration is rear-wheel drive, but the miniature package is different.
Why are the two crawlers both included?
They answer different size and venue preferences: a low indoor obstacle course for the original SCX24 Power Wagon, and a larger compact dry trail for the TRX-4M Bronco. Neither is declared a tested climbing winner.
Are these prices complete startup totals?
No. They are dated USD manufacturer vehicle references, with the AE86 explicitly labeled as indexed. Each card identifies required equipment still to budget, and tax, delivery and optional purchases can change the final cost.
Is the numbered order a performance ranking?
No. The order follows five different driving spaces. It is a research-led shortlist, not a sales ranking or a physical comparison test.
Sources and method
Exact reviewed SKUs, public manufacturer product information and selected model-manual equipment pages were checked for this venue-based shortlist. The current Horizon catalog is used for Losi and Axial package/price references; legacy brand availability banners conflict and are not treated as live stock evidence. The AE86 USD reference remains indexed, with its limitation stated. Outside coverage is attributed; no measured test results are claimed. Official photographs reuse credited archive assets.
